AAPA Farmers Business Model: Empowering Rural Agriculture for Sustainable Growth
1. About the Company:
AAPA Farmers is a dynamic agricultural enterprising company, committed to empowering rural farmers in the West Nile region. Our business model is designed to foster sustainable agricultural practices, provide a consistent supply of fresh food, cereals, grains, fruits, and vegetables, and support the growth of rural economies. With a unique business incubator, AAPA Farmers aims to drive innovation and ensure the long-term success of our partnering farmers.
Origin
Angal Area Producers’ Association (AAPA) was founded as a Rural Producers’ Association by the indigenous sons and daughters of Nebbi who were for a long time engaged in subsistence farming but now have a target to transform agriculture from Subsistence farming to Agribusiness and reach out to all farmers in West Nile and Uganda at large. In a bid to expand scope of operations and legality to conduct businesses, AAPA transformed the CBO into a Cooperative registered as Angal Producers Cooperative Society Ltd (APCO) and later a Limited Liability Company which is therefore referred to as AAPA Farmers Ltd as business wing of the association.
AAPA Farmers formation was motivated by numerous reasons; Firstly; the Region (West Nile) is the third poorest in Uganda. Secondly upon the growing concern among different stakeholders citing the poor standard of living in the region where 6 in 10 people live below the daily US$ 1 standard perhaps due to high unemployment rate, & generally there is hardship in meeting basic needs. An eye to see that unless we join hands, work with the rural marginalized farmers to liberate them from the vicious circle of poverty, by supporting them to scale up production from subsistence farming to commercialized farming through Agribusiness, since agriculture sector is the greatest employing sector in the west West Nile economy and can turn to be the game changer that can lift the poor communities out of poverty.
